Five Ways We Use Chocolate Greens (That My Kids Actually Like)

Table of Contents
As a mom, I get how tough it can be to get kids genuinely excited about nutrition. Mealtimes can feel like a battlefield—constantly trying to balance what they want with what they need to feel their best.
I’m always looking for ways to make food feel fun and joyful for my kids. Does it always go according to plan? Of course not. But I try. Sometimes that means turning dinner into a silly face on a plate. Other times, we’ll hit the farmers market together to pick out the weirdest-looking produce we can find or challenge ourselves to eat the full rainbow in a day. We even attempt (and mostly fail) to grow a few things ourselves.
One of the biggest learnings in parenting for me has been how much marketing is involved. It’s wild how curious and excited kids get about food when we flip the narrative and make it playful.
Still, just because I have a master’s in nutrition doesn’t mean my kids naturally love vegetables. Sometimes we all need a little help.
Enter: Hiya’s Chocolate Greens. This has been a game-changer in our house. It’s made with 55 whole-food-sourced ingredients—think organic fruits, veggies, and digestive enzymes that support growth, digestion, and brain health. And, it’s sugar-free but tastes like a treat, and is packed with essential nutrients like magnesium, calcium, and vitamin D.
Best of all…My son asks for his “chocolate milk” every morning. Just having something he’s genuinely excited about makes the mornings feel easier.
We usually just stir the greens into milk (honestly, that’s all you need), but here are a few other ways we love to use them:
1. Chocolate Smoothies (or Chocolate Banana Milk)
We make smoothies with Greek yogurt, chocolate greens, milk, spinach, and berries—or just blend the greens with milk and banana for a simple chocolate-banana milk.
2. Chocolate Covered Cherry Pospsicles
It’s officially popsicle season at my house. I pour any leftover smoothie into popsicle molds, or make a quick blend of chocolate greens, frozen cherries, and milk of choice for a homemade frozen treat.
3. Chocolate Banana Pancakes
These are always a hit. Just blend 3 eggs, 1 ripe banana, 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, and a scoop of chocolate greens. Pan-fry in a little butter for the fluffiest, tastiest pancakes.
4. Overnight Oats
Just add 1 scoop of chocolate greens to ½ cup of oats, 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, and 1 cup of your milk of choice. Stir and let sit overnight and serve with fresh fruit and an optional spoonful of yogurt. Can also be made hot!
5. Chocolate Waffles
If you have a waffle maker (highly recommend btw), just throw a couple of scoops of chocolate greens into your batter to turn your plain waffles into a nutrient-rich chocolate treat. Top with fresh banana slices and a little cinnamon. No maple syrup required.
