Myo-inositol is a naturally occurring compound found in the body and in everyday foods. Unlike vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D, calcium, or iron, myo-inositol doesn’t have an established Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) or Daily Value. In other words, experts haven’t established a specific amount that healthy teens need to get each day.

That doesn’t mean myo-inositol isn’t important. It simply means our bodies already make it, we get some from food, and scientists are still learning more about what supplemental myo-inositol may and may not do.

  • Beans and other legumes

  • Nuts and seeds

The amount can vary depending on the food and how it’s processed. In general, less-processed plant foods tend to provide more inositol than highly refined foods.

The body can also make myo-inositol on its own. That combination of food sources and natural production is one reason there is no established Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) or Daily Value for myo-inositol.

Still, the teen years don’t always come with a perfectly varied diet. Teens have more independence over what, when, and where they eat. Add packed schedules, sports, skipped meals, and grab-and-go foods, and nutritional consistency can get harder to maintain.
